Otto Gùnther, Katalog der Danziger Stadtbibliothek Bd III. Gober, Die Handschriften der Stadts-und Universitàtsbibliothek, vol. Catalogus codicum manuscriptorum medii aevi latinorum qui in Bibliotheca Jagiellonica Cracoviae asservantur, 6 vols, to date (Wroclaw, Ossolineum, 1980-96). It was translated into Spanish in the 13th century, and then into Latin. The Dit des Philosophes, brief biographies of and sayings attributed to two dozen 'philosophers,' was originally compiled by Mubashshir ibn Fatik, an 11th-century Arabic philosopher. The following abbreviations will be employed : Polish spelling is retained in bibliography to indicate the place of publication as well as location of manuscripts, while English forms are used for names mentioned in the main text. Spellings of Polish place names can create difficulties. I am particularly grateful to assistance given by librarians in Warsaw, Cracow, Gniezno, and Wroclaw. I have had only limited opportunity to inspect the original manuscripts mentioned here, being reliant on the microfilms kept in the National Library in Warsaw for certain items.
